This subject deals with basic processes of hot metal production in blast furnace, raw materials used in this process and their preparation and with alternative processes of direct reduction of iron ores. The second part pays attention to the most important reactions of hot metal oxidation refining (decarburization, dephosphorization) and following refinement in non oxidizing conditions. At the end, technological processes of steel casting, forging and rolling are mentioned.
Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

know about the modern technologies of iron and steel production and direct iron ore reduction processes.

know about special refining and remelting processes.

use acquired knowledge in practice at metallurgical plants - Iron and Steelworks.
