Annotation -
The course deals with phase equilibia of fluid multicomponent mixtures. Firts we will discuss theoretical fundamentals: classical thermodynamics of solutions and simple molecular models of solutions. Next explained in detail will be the vapor/liquid equilibrium, solubility of gases in liquids, liquid/liquid equilibrium, and solid/liquid equilibrium. Students get acquainted with respective fenomenology, experimental methods, data treatment, engineering calculations and estimation of these equilibria.

Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

  • assess the effects of temperature, pressure, and composition on phase equilibria in fluid mixtures
  • perform engineering calculations of phase equilibria in real multicomponent systems of fluids
  • treat experimental data on phase equilibria using thermodynamic models
