The purpose of these lectures is to introduce the methods, terminology and analytical tools of iconography and iconology and to familiarize students with fundamental iconographical subjects in classical ancient as well as Christian art, including European early modern secular art. Special attention will be paid to the sources of iconographic motifs (mythology, Greek and Roman myths, Homer, Ovid, the Bible, apocrypha, legends of the saints, iconographic manuals of the early modern era) and the application of this knowledge in the identification and interpretation of the content of the works of art. The iconographical method will be applied to Czech as well as Western works of art from antiquity to the modern era with special attention paid to medieval and early modern art.

A student attending the whole course should be able to describe, identify and interpret the fundamental iconographic subjects, have knowledge of the terminology and sacral as well as secular symbolism in the Western art.

Předmět je zakončen zkouškou. Studenti se na zkoušku přihlašují přes SIS.

Studentovi, který není na zkoušku v SISu zapsán, nebude umožněno zkoušku vykonat.

Student, který se ze zkoušky prostřednictvím SISu neodhlásí a na zkoušku se nedostaví, obdrží známku "F". Na mailové a telefonické omluvy nebude brán zřetel.
