The course is focused on feed water treatment, especially water as a heat agent for power engineering, water for electroplating, electronic industries,foodstuff production, pharmacy and waste water treatment, too. The information about water corrosion activities, methods of problem elimination and analytical procedures for its identification is included.

The students will be able to:

acquire general knowledge of utilization of water in industry, dangers connected with problems of feed,industrial and waste water treatment

apply this knowledge and combine it with information of other branches of chemistry.

1. Production and consumption of electrical energy from the ecological view-point.

2. Clausius-Rankin cycle ; T-s and H-s diagram of water steam.

3. Water- steam circuit in power-plant ( T-s diagram).

4. Treatment of make-up, circulation and waste water in nuclear power plant.

5. Behaviour of water components on industrial and energetic use.

6. Treatment of water for industrial use : filtration, clarification , precipitation.

7. Cooling-circuits in energetics ; water treatment.

8. Membrane processes for water desalination; electrodialysis.

9. Reverse osmosis , nanofiltration.

10. Ion exchange; properties and application of ion exchangers.

11. Operation of ion exchange column ; loading cycle, backwash, regeneration, rinse.

12. Ion-exchange unit processes : removal of (Ca+Mg) , dealkalinisation, deionisation.

13. Drinking water treatment by ion exchange ; nitrate removal.

14. Selective uptake of metals from contaminated water streams by sorbents.
