1. Balances of enthalpy. 2. Fluid mechanics, flow around particles. Dispersion systems. Fluidization: description of fluidized bed. 3. Residence time distribution. Plug flow and ideal mixing. 4. Liquid extraction with partially miscible solvents. 5. Dimensional analysis, dimensionless groups, empirical correlations. Modelling and analogy. 6. Mass transfer by convection and diffusion. Mass transfer between phases. 7. Mass transfer in staged and continuous separation processes. 8. Heat transfer at free convection conditions and heat transfer with phase change. 9. Membrane processes, gas permeation and reverse osmosis. 10. Membrane processes, pervaporation and ultrafiltration, micro-filtration. 11. Local material and enthalpy balance of basic reactor types: Tubular reactor; Batch reactor; Continuous stirred reactor and its cascade. 12. Heterogenous reactors.
