Exercise is focused on improving of individual (personal) skills in the basic methods of the light and fluorescent microscopy. Students will learn about good laboratory practice and organization of biological experiments. Students will discover microscopic structures of plant and animal cells, several important cellular processes.

Aim of the course

Student will have skills in the understanding of the light microscopy techniques and in orientation in the basic parameters of microscopes. Students will be to able to make of biological preparate, microscopically analyze them and make correct observation outputs. They will have deeper understating of plant and animal cellular structure, tissues and principles of heredity.

Introduction to the light and flurescent microscopy.

Basic protocols for preparation of microcopic preparates.

Practical aspects of light and fluorecent microscopy.

Plant cell cytology, light microscopy of selected organels and cell inclussions.

Osmotic processes in biological systems and their demonstration using light microscopy.

Introduction to plant anatomy and organology.

Observation of basic and connective plant tissues.

Introduction to cytogenetics and cell division cycle.

Observation of mitotic phases in plant meristems.

Selected examples from plant, animal and human genetics.

Basic cytochemistry.

Organization of animal cell and basic types of animal tissues

Histology of animal tissues.
