The subject widens the basic knowledge of biochemistry of microorganisms targeted on the organization of cell metabolism and their regulatory mechanisms. Cell cycle regulation of prokaryotes and eukaryotes is part of this. Biochemical principles of extremophilic microorganisms are included.Next topics are determinants of pathogens virulence, synthesis of antimicrobials peptides and antibiotics (secondary metabolites). The quorum-sensing regulation and the formation of bacterial biofilm are explained.

Only the student, who previously presented and defended the individual project on selected topic, can write final exam test and pass the oral exam. The successful completion of the course consists of the written test (min. 50 points out of 100) and oral examination in A-E grade. Last update: Stiborová Hana (06.02.2018)
