Annotation -
Laboratory course complement subject "Analysis of fuels." The aim of the laboratory is to familiarize students with the determination of different properties of crude oil, liquid motor fuels and coal.

Students will be able to:

Perform analysis of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels by absolved methods

Work out laboratory protocol on the analysis

Syllabus -

The course consists of laboratory tests, which are focused on fundamental analysis of solid and liquid fuels. The student must complete 10 assigned laboratory tests, which have not been accomplished within the subject N251005 Laboratory fuels. Examples of tests are listed below.

1. Distillation test and flash point of fuels

2. Low temperature properties of fuels

3. Determination of oxygen and water in alcohol and gasoline mixtures

4. Rheology of petroleum fractions

5. The density of petroleum products

6. Heavy fuel oils - determination of mechanical impurities, content of asphaltenes, Conradson carbon residue

7. Determination of PAHs in diesel fuels

8. Determination of water content in crude oil (by centrifugation, titration, distillation)

9. Determination of bio-components in fuels by FTIR

10. Oxidation stability of diesel fuels

11. Determination of moisture, ash and volatile matter in coal

12. Sulphur content according Eschke

13. Calorimetry - gross and net calorific values

14. Basic analysis of gaseous fuels, calculation of the gross and net calorific values
