Annotation -
The course is aimed at understanding of physical, chemical and biological properties of saccharides as a group of organic compounds important for living organisms. It covers also an overview of basic transformations of monosaccharides to their most important derivatives. It gives an overview of oligo- and polysaccharides together with their occurrence in nature and potential application as new raw materials for pharmaceutical and food industry.
