Annotation -
Lectures are focused on the practical application of legal metrology for chemical measurements. In general, the students will learn the proper use of units, important parts of the law on metrology (categorization of measuring instruments, calibration and validation, national etalons) and metrology system of the Czech Republic, and relevant international organizations in metrology. In the part more closely focused on chemical measurements, the students get acquainted with calibration and traceability of chemical measurements, especially with the main principles of preparation and use of certified reference materials. High attention will be paid to estimates of uncertainty of analytical results. In addition to basic statistical and methodological approaches to uncertainty calculations, students will familiarize with uncerainty of the most important analytical procedures.

Aim of the course -

Students will be able to understand the legal metrology and the Czech Republic will know the function metrology system in the Czech Republic to ensure traceability of measurement, calibration and verification of measuring instruments. They acquire knowledge about basic approaches to calibration of chemical measurements and the role of CRM. They will gain knowledge of the uncertainties estimation methods of chemical analysis and their applications to verify the accuracy of the results and to compare the results with the limit values.
