The course is focused on the description of relationships among different types of systems: physical, chemical, biological and sociological (geographical, economical, etc.). It uses the modern knowledge of General Systems Theory and The New Kind of Science – Complexity, thus the basic research including the stages of evolution and tension between chaos and order on the one hand and also the applied research in the field of planning on the other hand. A variety of aspects of systems, asymmetric statistical distribution, processes of evolution and, finally, our human ability to action are discussed. Special attention is paid to the decision-making processes of people, cities and societal systems, identification of control layers and their functions, principles of positive and negative feedback.
