Annotation -
The course describes the methods of preparation of pigments and powder materials by precipitation and reactions in the solid phase, the issue of powder and polycrystalline substances as raw materials in the synthesis of pigments. The course provides an overview of the use and distribution of inorganic pigments, production of basic and special inorganic pigments.

Students will be able to

describe ways to manufacture of powder materials and pigments;

propose suitable raw materials for their production;

get an overview of the current production of inorganic pigments, their properties and use for the application.

Syllabus -

The subject is focused on the following topics:

1. Introduction to the physico-chemical, structural and chemical properties of powder materials.

2. Methods of preparation of powder materials (diffusion in the powder materials).

3. Methods of precipitation of little soluble salts.

4. Preparation of the reactions in the solid phase, the importance of the reactivity of the raw materials.

5. The issue of powder and polycrystalline substances as raw materials in the preparation of powder materials.

6. The overview of inorganic pigments (classification, properties and use). Fillers.

7. The basic white pigments (TiO2, ZnO, ZnS, ZnSBaSO4).

8. The basic color pigments (classification, production).

9. Black pigments.

10. The distribution of special inorganic pigments (ceramic, pearlescent and shiny, luminescent).
