Bioorganic chemistry has expanded rapidly over the past two decades, enriching the disciplines of biology and chemistry and providing important insights into molecular level of the processes in biological systems. The course of Bioorganic chemistry of saccharides and nucleic acids covers the area at the interface between organic chemistry and biochemistry or biology. It comprises chemical and enzymatic synthesis of simple and complex carbohydrates and nucleotides and modern analytical methods of their structure and reviews the ways in which carbohydrates mediate binding to cell and subcellular targets such as DNA, proteins, and antibody binding sites. It also provides the biosynthesis of carbohydrates and nucleotides. Importance of their analogs as molecular tools for biological studies and existing or potential drugs will be covered as well as their synthesis.
