The course is focused on the description of the relationship between sustainability and resilience (of cities). City management and administration, including security planning and crisis management is discussed. And also history of cities – their rises and falls according to their weak resilience and mistakes of their administration. The issue is viewed from a theoretical point of view (what it should be, ensuring basic metabolic flows in a city) and from a personal point of view of responsible decision-makers. Students will understand resilience as a key characteristic of long-term sustainable development. They will know the economic nature of resilience and the possibilities of its management in big cities. They will understand the issues of security planning and its relationship to crisis management.
