Annotation -
The subject gives a basic overview of the mechanisms of metal damage that occur during their use. The main attention is paid to degradation processes due to mechanical forces (deformation, fracture, fatigue, wear) and physico-chemical interaction with the environment - corrosion. Adequate knowledge of corrosion mechanisms and methods of corrosion protection of metals is necessary for the selection of the correct procedure for the reconstruction and preservation of metallic monuments.

Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

  • Basic mechanisms of corrosion and degradation of metallic materials.
  • Analyze the causes of material damage in practice.
  • Design measures to minimize degradation processes in practice.
  • Principles of metal corrosion and corrosion protection of historical and modern materials.
