Students become acquinted with the origin of petroleum, its resources, production, consumption, transport and storage. They get to know about petroleum composition, its petreatment and distillation. The main part of the course provides students with detailed information on individual refining technologies, namely thermal and catalytic cracking, hydrocracking and hydrotreating of petroleum fractions, catalytic reforming and isomerization of gasoline fractions and the production of gasoline components by alkylation and polymerization. The chemism of these technologies, their individual variants and developing trends, the catalysts used and their properties, reaction conditions and the products obtained and their utilization are presented. Students become also acquinted with the problematics of biofuels, their production and utilization in transport.
