Subject focuses on the adoption of analytical methods used to determine the operational, utility and legislative parameters and characteristics of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels. Students are introduced to the theories of the origin of fossil fuels, their possible uses and the environmental impact of their use. They also learn about the properties, uses and analysis of alternative fuels, especially solid alternative fuels, FAME and bioethanol.

Students will know analytical methods suitable for the analysis of key properties of currently used fossil and alternative fuels in connection with legislative requirements. They will understand the reasons for measuring these properties and the differences in the approach for measuring the same properties in different types of samples. Furthermore, students will know the methods of sampling different fuels, because without proper sampling it is not possible to obtain correct results of any analysis.
