Annotation -
Hydrology and pedology deals with the relationships between water in any form and the basic components of the environment and the balance of the individual components of the hydrological cycle. The course provides information on precipitation and water movement in the atmosphere, its measurement, evaluation and data processing. The principle of water evaporation and its measurement from the water surface and from the solid surface as one of the balance elements of the hydrological cycle. It also deals with the hydrology of flowing waters, surface and subsurface, hydrology of reservoirs, lakes and swamps. Attention is also paid to pedology in relation to soil formation and its properties affecting the movement of water in the soil.

Learning outcomes -

Students will be able to:

  • assess the behavior and properties of water in different parts of the hydrosphere - precipitation, surface water flow and stagnant, subsurface, soil and groundwater;
  • statistically evaluate hydrologic data to get the basic statistical characteristics;
  • to determine the retention or storage volume of dam based on the knowledge of the integral lines and their characteristics;
  • to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge to other model examples.
