The course provides an introduction to current biotechnological approaches and technologies with a focus on industrial, medical, and environmental applications. Students will become familiar with the design of biotechnological processes, the selection and preparation of biological agents, and the types of cultivation media. A significant part of the course is devoted to modern areas such as the production of pharmaceuticals using microorganisms and tissue cultures, biomaterials, biocatalysis, and the use of biosensors. The course also includes current topics such as biotechnology for renewable energy sources, bioremediation, and environmental applications. It is designed as a theoretical foundation for further study and practical application of biotechnology in various sectors of industry and research.

Attendance at lectures is recommended but not monitored. The course includes an e-learning component where students can find instructions and topics for the credit project, lecture presentations, and other supplementary materials. Consultations are available to all students upon request, both in person and remotely. To obtain the course credit, students must actively and personally participate in the preparation and presentation of the project. Course completion for students with individual study plans or specific learning requirements: Credit is awarded based on the submission of a written study, which verifies the student's competencies at a level equivalent to the requirements of in-person attendance. The course structure combines lectures with project-based seminars. Lectures provide the theoretical foundations of key biotechnological areas and introduce major industrial applications. These are followed by seminars focused on active student engagement through group projects. Working in teams, students research and analyze assigned topics related to specific biotechnological processes, link them to theoretical knowledge acquired in lectures, and evaluate practical applications through structured discussion. Emphasis is placed on developing skills in searching for scientific information, teamwork, understanding the practical relevance of biotechnology, and the ability to engage in informed, professional argumentation.
