Annotation -
This course summarizes acquired bioinformatics knowledge, and puts bioinformatics skills into a context. Lecturers will demonstrate individual methods and approaches using well documented and well performed experiments. Possible solutions will be compared, and their efficiency will be discussed. This course is offered once every two years, always in the winter semester of an odd-numbered calendar year.

Syllabus -

The lecturers—and consequently the lecture topics—change over time. Below are examples of some lectures that have been delivered in the past:

1. Genome assembly of a non-model organism

2. Selection pressure on the human genome detected in the proximity of forensic microsatellite markers

3. Enzyme inhibitor design: an extended case study

4. Development of bioinformatics software for diagnostic laboratories

5. Use of bioinformatics analyses in microbiology

6. Changes in sequence characteristics in orthologous genes of vertebrates

7. Comprehensive research on cell communication in the tumor microenvironment

8. The Probes & Drugs portal

9. Hidden and stuttering genes in birds
