The aim of the subject is to introduce to students the principles of basic spectral methods and their application in organic chemistry.

determine a structure of a molecule from spectra thanks to thorough training in:

1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and basic 2D methods (COSY, HSQC, HMBC)

infrared spectroscopy

UV/Vis spectroscopy

mass spectrometry

1. The introduction to molecular spectroscopy, basic terms and principles.

2. NMR spectroscopy, background, basic terms and the utilization area.

3. 1H NMR in organic structural analysis.

4. 13C NMR in organic structural analysis.

5. Special NMR techniques.

6. Two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, COSY, HETCOR.

7. Infrared spectroscopy, basic terms and principles of the method.

8. Area of characteristic vibrations and the fingerprint region.

9. Possibilities of practical applications in structural analysis.

10. UV-VIS spectroscopy, basic terms and principles of the method.

11. Practical application of UV-VIS in structural analysis.

12. Mass spectrometry, principles of the method, experimental set-up.

13. Ionization techniques, sample preparation, basic principles of fragmentation.

14. Practical application of MS in structural analysis of organic molecules.
