"Modular Chemical Engineering Laboratory II" enables students to be assigned to the tasks performed in the chemical-engineering laboratory that they have not passed in the frame of earlier courses. The students apply the theoretical knowledge gained in the lectures and practicals of the subject Chemical Engineering I, II by working with real devices.

Aim of the course

Students will get familiar with unit operations and devices commonly used in industry such as absorption, heat exchangers, settling, fluidization, rectification, extraction, drying, filtration, reverse osmosis and reactors.

Topics of the laboratory tasks:

Hydromechanical operations and separation processes: Fluidisation, Settling, Centrifugial pump, Pressure drop in pipelines, Pressure drop in packed bed, Filtration

Mass-transfer phenomena and corresponding separation processes: Diffusion coefficient measurement, Absorption, Distillation, Extraction, Drying

Heat transfer devices: Plate heat exchanger, fin heat axchanger

Membrane processes: Reverse Osmosis, Electrodialysis

Reaction involving processes: Heterogenous CSTR
