Annotation
The course Strategic Planning and Development Policy introduces students to the methodological, institutional and practical (implementation) framework of strategic planning, primarily in the public, but also corporate and non-profit sectors. Students get to know examples of sectoral, government municipal and international policies and strategic documents and its (spatial and master planning, general management, public interest, sustainability etc.) context.

Aim of the course

Competence for analysis, implementation and interpretation of different types of strategic plans and public policies and design its assignment.

Ability to develop a strategic plan or its part.

Orientation in in current public policies and general overview of relevant European, international and Czech strategic documents with an impact on sustainable development.

Course completion requirements

Credit will be awarded on the basis of attendance and active participation in seminars and the elaboration and defence of a semester work on an individually assigned topic. The course will end with an oral exam.

1) Introduction to strategic planning. Strategic planning and sustainability. Ppublic and development policies and strategic planning. Strategic plans and public policies typology.

2) Methodological, legal and institutional framework of public development policies.

3) Methodological, legal and institutional framework of strategic plans, links to strategic management. Formal and content framework of strategic planning documents. History of strategic planning including key relevant documents.

4) Contemporary public policies (Czech Republic, EU) relevant to the agenda of environmental, social and economic sustainability.
