This subject is focused on the development of microwave chemistry (history, description), on the mechanism of microwave heating (polarization vs. conduction), on interaction of the microwaves with materials (absorption, transmission, reflection, scattering), on the behavior of compounds in microwave field (superheating effects, complex dielectric constant, loss angle, penetration depth, hot spots), on application of microwaves on selected chemical reactions (increase of reaction rate, effect on yield and selectivity of reaction), and on the experimental equipment for microwave chemistry (magnetron, measuring of temperature).
