Annotation -
In the course, students will use knowledge of General and Inorganic chemistry to assess and explain properties of technologically interesting materials. They apply their knowledge of electronegativity, of the atom size , of ions and molecules,of binding energy, of chemical structures from molecular to the crystalline. Based on their knowledge of basic models of chemical bonds (ionic, covalent and metallic) as well as the structure of materials (monocrystalline, polycrystalline, non-crystalline), they will meet the requirement to explain the properties of materials.

Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

Explain the role of localized and delocalized electrons in the material properties.

Justify the classification of certain materials to context of crystalochemistry.

Explain the role of defects in the structure of materials .

To clarify the causes of mechanical, electrical, magnetic and optical properties of various materials.

To estimate the properties of them unknown or not yet unknown materials.
