Annotation -
The subject gives a basic survey of materials degradation mechanisms which uccure during its utilization. The main attention is focused on degradation processes due to mechanical forces (deformation, fracture, fatigue, wear). The other part is devoted to corrosion, i.e. degradation due to chemical reactions ie. degradation due to a chemical reactions with the components of environment. In the end, degradation at high-temperatures and degradation due to radiation are described.

Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

Analyze the reasons of the materials damage in practice.

Propose the solutions to remedy the consequences of the damage.

Propose the solutions leading to minimization of the degradation processes in practice.
