The subject provides a comprehensive overview of metal materials used at present and in the past. The first part describes the structure of metals and alloys as well as the most important mechanical properties of metallic materials. Of the specific alloy systems, the main attention is paid to iron alloys, i.e. steels and cast iron. Important non-ferrous metals and their alloys are also described.
