Annotation -
The subject serves to deepen the technological knowledge and laboratory skills of the student, the ability to connect information obtained in individual separate subjects. The semester project leads the student to work with restorers, humanities-educated workers, or other experts. The student works at one of the workplaces: Department of Chemical Technology of Monument Conservation, Department of Glass and Ceramics, Department of Metals and Corrosion Engineering, according to his specialization.

Syllabus -

As part of the Semester Project, the student works on topics related to the conservation-restoration technology of historical objects made of organic materials, metal materials, glass and ceramics, and building materials.

Examples of topics for assigning the Semester Project:

  • Technological proposal for the conservation of diazographic records.
  • Study of the causes of the disintegration of cinematographic films on an acetate substrate.
  • The use of hot-melt polyamide adhesive for strengthening archives on a paper base.
  • Optimization of natural silk dyeing processes.
  • Study of the release of volatile organic substances from polymer foams.
  • Modification of the properties of injection mortars.
  • Analysis of Art Nouveau glass colors.
  • Corrosion embrittlement of historical sterling silver artifacts.
  • Mechanism of degradation of tin alloys with a low content of impurity elements.
