The course consists of lectures and individual tutorials focusing on the use of specific properties of microorganisms in biotechnology. Each property (biosynthesis, biotransformation, biodegradation, bioaccumulation, or combinations thereof) is determined genetically, physiologically manipulated and conditioned by a given cell type (prokaryotic cell, unicellular eukaryote, genetically modified microrganismus) and physiological state (cells growing in suspension, adhered cell). Due to a wide variety of metabolic pathways, which have microorganisms occurring both in normal environments and in environments with extreme parameters and also due to relatively easy manipulation (in terms of strengthening, stability) of the properties are offered the possibility to create new biotechnological processes (interdisciplinary technology) including evaluation of the potential risks.
