Annotation -
The course enhances the knowledge in the area of electrochemistry obtained in bachelor study. In the first part of the course, attention is focused on the description of electrical signal transmission in conductors, individual types of semiconductors and electrolytes. Considerable attention is paid to the description of the phase boundary between above-mentioned materials and ion-conducting electrolytes. The following section discusses in detail the charge transfer via the phase interface and the kinetics of charge-driven reactions. This basic model is subsequently supplemented by the effects of transport phenomena. Theoretical knowledge and description of the systems are subsequently used in the discussion of the mechanism of corrosion reactions and their influencing. At the end students are acquainted with measuring techniques used in electrochemistry and corrosion engineering and practical applications of acquired knowledge.
