As a continuation of the course Fundamentals of Chemistry of Pharmaceuticals, this course provides students with more detailed information on the most important modern drug therapeutic classes regarding their discovery, development and their life cycle. The real development in the field is mostly discussed in the form of relevant case studies. The basic division is identical with that used in the Fundamentals of Chemistry of Pharmaceuticals; the particular therapeutic classes are first introduced and then some subclasses interesting from therapeutic and/or commercial aspects are treated as case studies. As a whole, interrelations between chemistry, pharmacochemistry and pharmacology are highly stressed throughout the course.
Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

know basic therapeutic groups of drugs, the most frequent pharmacophores in these groups as well as their modes of action

search in chemical and pharmaceutical databases and in chemical and pharmaceitical literature and find pharmacological data as well as data on syntheses of generic substances and substances in phase III of clinical trials

evaluate critically data obtained from chemical and pharmaceutical literature and utilize them in design of generic substance synthesis
