The goal of the subject is to inform students about advanced computation methods of mass and enthalpy balance during gas fuels combustion. The overview of oxidation mechanisms of fuels and pollutants formation is given too. The basic types of gas combustion devices are given. The attention is also paid to combustion of liquid and gaseous fuels in combustion engines, influence of fuel properties on engine operation and exhaust emissions. Exhaust gas after treatment devices for combustion engines are described as well as utilization of alternative motor fuels.
Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

compute fundamental energy characteristics of gas fuels in accordance with international technical and legislative standards

perform exact mass ballance of combustion of gas fuels

compute burning velocity, boundaries of ingnition and detonation of flamable gases and vapours

describe construction of devices combusting gas fuels

apply methods of decreasing pollutant formation

understand combustion of fuel in combustion engines and formation of tailpipe pollutants

describe exhaust gas after treatment systems designated for reduction of tailpipe emissions from combustion engines
