Annotation -
Mineral resources have been used by people since time immemorial. However, in the course of human history, the spectrum of commodities of interest, which are important or indispensable for human society, changes. Mineral resources are one of the two basic material inputs for human society and for industrial branches. We encounter mineral raw materials in the production of the entire spectrum of products and outputs, including modern electronics. Due to the importance of individual commodities, mineral resources have been contested throughout human history, and this competition has been fueled by the modernization of many former Third World countries in the last two decades. In these countries, the consumption of mineral resources is growing dynamically, new regional powers are emerging, and these countries have joined the global competition for mineral resources. The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the categorization of mineral resources, with the importance of the main mineral resources in today's world, with the principles of functioning of the world market with mineral resources, with the role of individual global players in the competition for world mineral resources, with possible national strategies for the use of mineral resources, especially including latest European and national documents. Attention will also be paid to various approaches to ensuring the country's raw material security, the principles of creating state material reserves and modern technologies that enable responsible and careful management of mineral resources.
