This course is closely connected to the concept of chemical technology teaching at the Department of organic technology. The ambition of the course is to contribute to the general engineering profile of its participants. Another important aim is to show and explain the relations between chemical production and other branches of industry. Economical aspects, energy balances, the prevention and active forms of environmental protection of chemical processes are treated as well. Basic petrochemical technologies are important constituents of the course. Importance of thermodynamic and kinetic principles in industrial processes is stressed in the lectures.

Students will be able to:

  • be orientated in the basis of raw materials for both the chemical, pharmaceutical industry and energetics.
  • to know the primary raw material sources (crude oil, coal, natural gas), to describe their processing
  • to describe in datail production of the basic chemicals (ethylene, propylene, aromatics, ammonia, sufuric

acid, nitric acid and further)

  • to explain basic problems along the change over from raw materials base on crude oil to the alternative

raw materials
