The subject is concerned with classification of polymers and additives. It starts with definitions of basic terms e.g. polymers, raw materials, additives, polymeric compounds. It focuses on elastomers, raw and vulcanized rubbers, thermoplastics and thermosets, followed by standard additives, i.e. processing aids, antidegradants, crosslinking agents, additives influencing other physical properties. Special additives inducing specific properties of polymeric materials are also discussed.

Continuous testing by means of 4 written tests is performed during the semester. The examination is completed when at least 3 of 4 tests are passed or a summary test is passed and sufficient knowledge of topics characterised by the curriculum is proved at oral exam.
