Annotation -
Chemical biology is a modern scientific field at the borderline between chemistry and biology. It uses small organic compounds to affect various biological processes. A chemical biology course covers a territory where organic chemistry, molecular and cell biology, cheminformatics and bioinformatics meet. The course will introduce small molecules as tools for subsequent biology research or as a basis for novel drug development.

Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

  • Understand how small molecules bind to various molecular targets.
  • Understand how small molecules affect e.g. protein-protein interactions or signalling cell pathways.
  • Know basic methods for molecular target identification, experimental bioactivity high throughput testing, and basic principles of molecular tools or drugs development.
