Annotation -
The subject is aimed at the fundamentals of petroleum processing and at characterization of the most important petroleum products (motor fuels, lubricating and heating oils, bitumen). Students get information about the properties, safety and environmental impact of petroleum products during their production, distribution and consumption. A part of the subject is also focused on alternative motor and heating fuels.

Aim of the course -

Students will know:

Fundamentals of petroleum processing and production of most important petroleum products.

Motor fuels, lubricating oils and other petroleum products and possibilities of their partial or complete substitution by alternative products.

How to analyze the impact of production, distribution and usage of petroleum products to environment, they will also know the arrangements for reduction of negative environmental impacts.

2. Fundamentals of petroleum processing, terminology and basic characteristics of primary petroleum products.

3. Thermal and catalytic processes in petroleum refining.

4. Properties and production of automotive gasoline.

5. Properties and production of automotive diesel fuel.

6. Gaseous fuels in transportation.

7. Biofuels for transportation and production of energy.

8. Emissions from transportation (regulated and unregulated emissions, catalytic converters, emission measurement).

9. Distribution of automotive fuels (transport, storage, fuel spill cleanup).

10. Filling stations.

11. Production, properties and distribution of aviation fuels.

12. Fundamentals of lubricating oil production, regeneration of used oils.

13. Utilization, properties and biodegradability of lubricating oils.

14. Bitumens and heating oils.
