Annotation -
Subject presents goals and instruments related to a circular economy where the value of products, materials and resources is maintained as long as possible, and where the generation of waste is minimalized. Futher the course puts the accent on waste management planning instruments that may support the turn to the circular economy (especially waste management plans and waste prevention programmes). This study course focuses on streams as plastics, critical raw materials, food waste, construction etc. from the view of life-cycle thinking.

1. Basic principles of the circular economy (definitions, goals, strategic documents and legal framework). Supporting instruments of the circular economy (LCA, eco-design, extended producer responsibility, environmental labelling and systems, green public procurement, voluntary agreements, environment education)

2. Critical raw materials, secondary raw materials, recyclable nutrients (definitions, strategic documents, legal framework, standards)

3. Waste management planning (waste management plans, waste prevention programmes, Waste Management Plan of the Czech Republic and municipal)

4. Economy of waste management, financial instruments supporting a circular economy

5. Excursion - waste prevention and recycling

6. Plastics and utilisable raw materials as paper, glass, aluminium, iron (life-cycle thinking)

7. Electrical and electronic equipments

8. End of life vehicles, tyres, batteries and accumulators

9. Construction and demolition waste

10. Food waste

11. Other waste streams (hazardous waste incl. medical waste, biomasse, mining waste, etc.)

12. Databases and information systems in waste management

13. Municipal waste
