Annotation -
The aim of the course is to enhance students´communication skills in English. It concentrates on interpretation of texts and recordings, on presentation of opinions and reaching agreement. The topics cover personality, early career, languages, brain evolution, arts, and entertainment. The final knowledge of language is at B2+/C1 level according to CERF (Common European Reference Framework).

Students will be able to

• understand and interpret authentic texts (newspaper articles, extracts from literature) and recordings

• give their opinions on a topic discussed with their partners using appropriate register

• use appropriate and precise vocabulary

• write a review

1. Personality attributes. Unusual occupations.

2. Early career. Verb forms to talk about the past. Collocations with give and make.

3. Language learning. Collocations with make, get and do. Word formation: suffixes.

4. Endangered languages. Expressing purpose, reason and result. Spelling mistakes.

5. The mind. Types of thinkers. Countable and uncountable nouns. No, none, not.

6. Brain evolution. Formal and informal vocabulary. The passive. Writing an essay.

7. Aspects of work. Dependent prepositions. Adjective-noun collocations.

8. Graduate jobs. Expressing possibility, probability and certainty.

9. Dramatic events. Dangerous activities. Idiomatic language. Verbs followed by infinitive or -ing.

10.Self-portraits. Avoiding repetition. Adjective-noun collocations.

11.Art for offices. Graffiti. Writing a review.

12.Leisure and entertainment. Complex prepositions. Virtual worlds.
