Annotation -
The subject is focused on physical-chemical and thermodynamic analysis of pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical processes used in the production of metals from ore and waste material. Practical utilization is currently demonstrated on diagrams of non-ferrous production and waste treatment.

Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

utilize existing metallurgical processes of metals recovery from ore and/or waste materials and also to propose new methods suitable for recycling common or specific metal-bearing wastes.

Syllabus -

The subject is aiming specifically to the following topics:

1. Theoretical analysis of physical and chemical processes used in dressing metal-bearing materials.

2. Thermodynamics and kinetics of reactions proceed in Me-S-O system.

3. Kellog diagram and its application on production of non-ferrous metals.

4. Chloride and chlorination roasting, thermal decompositions and calcination processes.

5. Principles of reduction and concentration fusion of metal oxides and and halides.

6. Thermodynamic analysis of reduction of metal oxides and halides.

7. Function, composition and structure of metallurgical slags.

8. Principles of hydrometallurgical production of metals, thermodynamics of leaching, E-pH diagrams.

9. Kinetics of leaching processes, electrochemical and bacterial leaching.

10. Hydrometallurgical processes under elevated pressures, leaching methods and apparatus.

11. Refining of leachates: precipitation, cementation, sorption, liquid extraction, ion exchange.

12. Precipitation and crystallization of metals from solutions.

13. Production and refining electrolysis of metals.

14. Economic and ecological aspects of non-ferrous metal production.
