Within the course, modern separation techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) will be presented and discussed. Their utilization for characterization and purification of biologically active substances will also be presented. Hyphenation of HPLC and SFC with mass spectrometry (MS) for the characterization of organic substances will be emphasized. Theoretical knowledge of spectroscopic methods gained within previous studies will be deepened. The substantial part of the course will be practical demonstration of modern instruments (NMR, HPLC-MS, SFC-MS, preparative HPLC, etc.). Students will fructify the obtained theoretical knowledge and practical skills in solving a special project, which consists of identification of a substance in an unknown sample and the determination of its structure.
