The course is focused on the use of alternative fuels in transport. In the introduction, students will become acquainted with the importance of alternative fuels, the reasons for their use and the EU's policy in this area. Subsequently, attention will be focused on the production of individual alternative fuels (biofuels, synthetic automotive fuels, LPG, natural gas, biogas and hydrogen) their properties and use as transport fuels, etc. Students will get a comprehensive overview of current and prospective trends in alternative fuels production including related economic issues.

After completion of the course, student will easily orientate in the problematics of alternative transportation fuels. Students will become acquainted in detail with the rationale for the implementation of alternative fuels as automotive fuels in transport, their manufacturing processes, their properties (advantages and disadvantages), the EU strategy on alternative fuels and the current and prospective trends related to their production.

The course is divided into two basic blocks. Within the first block, students will deal with the importance of alternative fuels and the reasons for their implementation among automotive fuels in transport. Also, relevant legislation, EU policy on alternative fuels and current and potential future trends for alternative fuels in transport will be discussed. The second block will focus on the characteristics of the current alternative fuels, their production, their fuel properties and their advantages/disadvantages associated with their use in transport.
