The aim of this lecture is to inform students about fundamental geochemical properties of toxic substances and other contaminants in the environment. The study will be focused on natural and/or anthropogenic sources of interest contaminants, their forms and stability in environmental systems, transport mechanisms and possible decontamination methods with regard to physico-chemical and geochemical conditions of investigated system.

Students will be able to:
Describe main sources, stability and form, environmental transport and basal chemistry of selected contaminats.
Characterize the biogeochemical cycle of interest toxic elements/substance (according to own selection).
Distinquish natural and anthropogenic sources of environmental risks and estimate their harmful impact on the environment.
Suggest an effective decontamination technology according to obtained skills with regard to actual conditions and technological requirements; this part will be variable and can be connected with the solving of actual environmental problem (according to students interest/demants).
