Annotation -
New findings regarding quantities and units under the ISO and IUPAC documents. Changes in the water due to sorption processes occurring on solid phases, their prediction and use in technological processes. The importance of oxidation-reduction potential and its usefulness in assessing the aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic conditions. The importance of photochemical processes in the transformation of the chemical composition of natural waters. Nanoparticles of various solid phases affecting the chemical composition of formation waters and technological processes of purification. Buffering and neutralizing capacity of different kinds of plants and their importance in water chemistry and water technology. Various methods of preservation of water samples depends on the analyte. The new persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and drugs and substances used for personal care products (PPCP) occurring in the waters and the principles of analytical determination. The subject can be adapted to the specific research focus of the doctoral work.

Aim of the course -

Students will be able to:

assess the quality of the water in terms of its impact for the environment;

assess the quality of the water in terms of its aggressive action on various materials;

assess water quality in terms of hygiene;

explain the behavior of water on the basis of solutions of chemical and biochemical processes in different types of water.

Adsorption processes affecting the chemical composition of water. Physical chemistry of surfaces.

Redox potential in water, depending on aerobic, anaerobic and anoxic conditions.

The new persistent organic pollutants (POPs) under the Stockholm Convention and PPCP (pharmaceutical and personal care products).

Nanoparticles having a role in creating the chemical composition of water and decontamination

Buffering and neutralizing capacity in different types of waters.

Photochemical processes in natural waters.

Summary determination of organic substances in water and the principles of determination of selected analytes in water.

The dependence of the chemical structure of organic compounds on the oxidation by the COD determination.

Preservation of water samples (ISO 5667-3).
