Annotation -
Chemical engineering B is part of a two-semester course of Chemical Engineering for the Chemistry stream at the bachelor's level. It introduces key concepts of unit operations, their quantitative description, scale-up, and design in the context of industrial R&D. The course covers unit operations based on the momentum, heat and mass transfer, such as chemical reactors, separation processes (extraction, absorption, distillation, adsorption, membrane-based separations), particulate processes (agglomeration, milling), and finally with the basics concepts of process design.

Students will be able to:

  • describe the principles of selected unit operations
  • carry out design and analytical calculations for these unit operations
  • make rational choice of process alternatives

2. Chemical reactors II (non-isothermal reactors, heterogeneous catalytic reactions).

3. Fundamentals of mass transfer (diffusion, mass transfer coefficient, classification of diffusion separation processes, concept of equilibrium stage).

4. Liquid-liquid extraction.

5. Absorption.

6. Distillation I (flash and batch distillation).

7. Distillation II (design of distillation tower).

8. Adsorption and chromatography.

9. Membrane separation processes.

10. Particle size reduction.

11. Particle size enlargement.

12. Fundamentals of process design.

13. Form lab to production (scale-up, safety, techno-economic analysis).
