1. Technical, economic and environmental feasibility of different desalination techniques.

2. Precipitation processes; hydroxides, sulfides.

3. Electrolytic recovery of metals from water streams.

4. Membrane processes; principles, characteristics, applicability; electrodialysis.

5. Reverse osmosis.

6. Ion Exchange; basic properties of ion exchange resins.

7. Equilibrium, selectivity, kinetics and column dynamics of ion exchange.

8. Operation of ion exchange resin column; loading cycle, backwash, regeneration, rinse.

9. Ion exchange unit operations; softening, dealkalinisation, deionisation, demineralisation.

10. Ultra-pure water preparation, electrodeionisation.

11. Selective sorption and separation of metals by ion exchange; chelating ion exchangers.

12. Drinking water treatment by ion exchange.

13. Removal of organic matters from water; clarification, sorption anion exchangers, nonionogenic sorbents.

14. Selective uptake of anions; inorganic ion exchangers; properties and application.
