Annotation -
The subject extends knowledge that students obtained by study of inorganic technology, agricultural chemistry and analytical chemistry. Main accent is put on methods for testing of fertilizers and soils, the most important methods for plant analysis are briefly presented too. Procedures recommended for agricultural laboratories, standardized techniques and methods developed on the agrochemical compartment of the Department of Inorganic Technology at the University of Pardubice are lectured.

Syllabus -

The subject is focused on the following topics:

1. Analysis of fertilizers.

Classification and properties of fertilizers. Sampling and treatment of samples. Evaluation of physical properties of fertilizers, determination of water. Methods for determination of ammonia and nitrate nitrogen. Determination of amide and total nitrogen. Determination of phosphorus, procedures for extraction of total, water-soluble and assimilable phosphorus. Determination of potassium, extraction of various forms of potassium. Determination of calcium and magnesium. Determination of micronutrients (B, Co, Cu, Mn, Mo, Zn) and extraneous elements (Cd, Cr, Pb, As, Hg).

2. Soil analysis.

Sampling and treatment of samples. Test of physical properties, determination of soil pH. Determination of carbonates, assimilable phosphorus, potassium and magnesium. Tests for characterization of soil organic matter. Analyses of aqueous soil extract. Determination of exchangeable cations, sorption capacity and free forms of iron oxides. Determination of ammonia and nitrate nitrogen. Determination of microelements. Specific and group leachates.

3. Analysis of plants.

Sampling and treatment of samples for analyses. Mineralization procedures. Determination of total nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium. Determination of sulfur, chlorides, nitrates and nitrites.

4. Determination of residues of pesticides and heavy metals in soil and plants.
