Annotation -
This subject is focused on applying the theoretical and practical knowledge of photochemistry in practice. Students will familiarize with Introduction to photochemistry (nature of photochemistry, Jabloński diagram, excited states, basic laws and rules), with photophysical processes (radiative processes - absorption and emission, nonradiative processes), with mechanistic and experimental photochemistry (rate constants, quantum yield, technique of preparative photochemistry), with bimolecular deactivating processes (excimers, exciplexes, energy transfer, sensitization) and with the selected photochemical reactions (cycloaddition, isomerization, rearrangement, fragmentation, addition, substitution, oxidation) and with photocatalysis (basic aspects). The practical demonstrations of photochemical equipment, both in batch and flow mode, are a part of this course.

Course completion requirements -

It is compulsory to pass written examination test with the result at least 50 %, and finally to pass successfuly the oral examination (50 %). Students can complete the exam in Czech or English.

3. Radiative photophysical processes 1 (absorption and emission, Franck-Condon principle)

4. Radiative photophysical processes 2 (fluorescence, phosphorescence, electron spectroscopy)

5. Nonradiative photophysical processes 1 (state diagram, crossing of electronic states)

6. Nonradiative photophysical processes 2 (internal conversion, intersystem crossing)

7. Mechanistic photochemistry (rate constants, quantum yield, Stern-Volmer equation)

8. Experimental photochemistry (technique of preparative photochemistry, sources of UV/Vis, filters)

9. Bimolecular deactivating processes (excimers, exciplexes, energy transfer, sensitization)

10. Photochemical reactions 1 (cycloaddition of alkenes, enones, imines and indoles)

11. Photochemical reactions 2 (isomerization on double bond, electrocyclization, rearrangements)

12. Photochemical reactions 3 (isomerization of benzene, fragmentation)

13. Photochemical reactions 4 (addition, reduction, oxidation by singlet oxygen, substitution)
