The anaerobic treatment processes are used for effective treatment of municipal wastewater and sludges as well as for the treatment of a variety of industrial wastewaters. This technology is attractive, since the energy required for operating the process is minimal compared to the energy required for aerobic processes. This course covers the most relevant aspects of anaerobic digestion of organic wastes. The fundamentals and kinetics aspects of AD are reviewed together with reviews of the microbial and environmental aspects of AD process. This course gives a comprehensive view of the process and understanding the practical principles as well as the origin of possible problems arising from the management of the process.
