Annotation -
In the laboratory, students learn the practical application of some of these techniques (different types of atomic absorption spectrometry, mass spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry) for elemental analysis of major and trace amounts of elemets in various types of samples.

Syllabus -

1. Atomic absorption spectrometry: determination of mercury using a single-purpose analyzer DMA.

2. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry: determination of total element content.

3. Inductively coupled plasma spectrometry mass spectrometry: coupling with liquid chromatography for speciation analysis.

4. X-ray fluorescence spectrometry.

Learning outcomes -

Students completing the course will acquire practical knowledge of the methods of elemental analysis using optical spectrometry, X-ray spectrometry and mass spectrometry. They will be familiar with the various methods of sample preparation and problems of cleanness in trace laboratory.
